It’s not just generous wine. The daring task, which I hope the reader will appreciate, was to condense, within the space of a novella, the entire poetics of Italo Svevo by borrowing here and there environments and sentiments from his other works: the beloved women, for instance, the vices and the illness. Time is deconstructed. The scenes follow one another through flashbacks and dreamlike settings. The style, though dry and linear, allows itself to be contaminated by surrealistic jumps and strips with the intent of making the flow of the story as engaging as possible. It will be for the reader like taking a journey through time under the influence of the alcoholic fumes of an exceedingly generous wine.
